In the lush green landscapes of Kerala, where tradition and nature harmoniously coexist, Framed House stands uniquely embodying the philosophy “less is more”. Overall, this masterpiece blends seamlessly with the traditional charm of Kerala with clean lines and minimalism.
Editor’s Note: The Framed house has a strong yet gentle persona that embraces everything that comes its way. i2a architects have progressively shown how natural light can be the hero element if spaces are planned mindfully. The way light shimmers in through slits and blinds and lingers on top of surfaces is truly uplifting, in a way that says a lot about the designer’s genuine passion. ~ Nishal Sevak
Framed House explores ways of minimalism | i2a Architects Studio
The design team tackled the narrowness of the site by focusing on simplicity, functionality and the use of pure geometry. Unquestionably, the design principle aims to create open, uncluttered spaces that promote a sense of tranquility and harmony with nature. Also, this approach brings a sense of order and clarity, allowing the beauty of the house to shine through.
So, the journey starts through a beautifully landscaped garden with native plants and tropical flora. The spacious veranda of the house provides a perfect spot for morning tea or evening conversations. This design approach invites natural light and ventilation while providing unobstructed views of the lush greenery.
Consequently, as you step inside, an open and airy space with high ceilings and large windows that allow ample natural light to flood in greets you.
An expansive living welcomes one, and dining and kitchen area encourages interaction and facilitates ventilation.
Indeed, the central green strip is the heart of the residence, which offers a retreat within the home, allowing residents to connect with nature.
Certainly, the water feature creates a soothing soundscape and cooling effect to the office space adjacent to it.
The two bedrooms on the ground floor are nicely tucked in the corners to provide maximum privacy. Thus, the second floor consists of the third bedroom which overlooks in to the strategically placed garden, creating pockets of natural beauty.
The choice of materials in this minimal abode is deliberate and refined. Furthermore, whites, soft grays, beige, and muted earth tones dominate the interior and exterior, creating soothing and timeless atmosphere.
The living room is a cozy retreat, with plush sofas and vibrant cushions. Also, furnishing selections are simple, featuring sleek profiles and sophisticated textures. Additionally, large windows and skylights are incorporated into the design to flood the interior spaces with daylight and create drama with the shadow play.
As can be seen, in the heart of Kerala’s natural beauty, Framed House stands as a statement of harmonious living experience with nature. Thus, in a world where complexity often dominates, this abode provides a sanctuary of calm and mindfulness.
Lastly, this house serves as a symbol of the region’s ability to adapt, evolve, and create architecture that speaks to both the present and the future.
