Yet, VH Design in Ahmedabad, is just that—a personal expression of its resident’s tastes for art, designs, raw materials, and stories. A Residence for Mitesh Trivedi, his wife and his son Ridham and daughter in law, this residence combines functionality and modern living with human personalities. With spaces that unfold like a carefully curated exhibition—revealing new art pieces at every turn—it testifies the power of thoughtful design in not only melding but also elevating characters of those who inhabit the space.
Raw Materials Combine With Modern Living In This Ahmedabad Residence | VH Designs Studio
The bungalow is designed with consideration of objectivity. The living spaces and other utilitarian functions, such as kitchen, dining, and laundry, occupy the ground floor of the house, leaving the upper floor for intimate spaces such as bedrooms with private balconies, library and entertainment area. Raw materials like lime-plastered walls with Terrazzo flooring provide a timeless backdrop to the space. It gains a natural patina over time, further emphasising the house’s transitory nature.
Upon entering through the main door, artistic formation of elephants with the brass outline in the floor makes the entry defined and tells a story in the beginning itself. This offers a powerful cultural welcome to the house.
This sculpture marks the beginning of the art journey, leading naturally into the drawing room where familial bonds are celebrated through an artwork—a set of Lotus engraved in terrazzo floor and the main back drop of drawing room wall.
The majestic drawing room wall with full-height fluted wooden shutters shows the love for raw materials. The drawing room’s formal, minimalist furniture proclaims it as a space for receiving occasional visitors.
Family living area, on the other hand, exudes a relaxed and intimate ambience to it. Here the family’s art and artefact collection—curated from travels across the India. A uniquely weaved chair with cotton threads defines its own place in wooden dominated area.
If living areas hint at the family’s tastes, the dining area and dry kitchen offer a sophisticated, subtle and functional and playful twist. A bespoke fluted glass cabinet, cleverly concealing the AC units, the exposed RCC surfaces are the most promising element compliment the terrazzo floor as well the wooden elements on all the vertical surfaces. Wooden lotus in RCC ceiling and with Persian colour tile with dark wood frames creates a perfect blend. The dry kitchen was reimagined in traditional raw materials like wood and given a flair of contemporary material with help of back painted glass.
As the other spaces speaks the language of less is more, the kitchen space is also one of the same. The neat spaces with service platform at distance creates clutter free spaces. East facing window has access to direct sun light. The kitchen storages and separately located on way to the utility.
The space between the family living and kitchen defined the dinning space which overlooks the leaving room as well the patio and corridor. The spaces at dining area are complimenting each other.
Connecting the two floors is a striking staircase, Plain solid wooden planks crowned with a plain balustrade defines contemporary approach to design of staircase railing. The creative vocabulary prevalent in the house extends to the passage, where an extended studded marble leafs a part of whole
Art work starting with a land to a forest to a waterbody to a sky and ultimately connecting to the moon. The extensive use of colours and raw materials defines the immortality of the beauty and redefined the contemporary architecture at its best.
The design’s true ingenuity—its subtle translation of nature into spaces—is fully revealed upstairs and passage with an unprecedented art work.
The ground floor rooms embody their youthful energy and evolving tastes. Room leans towards sophistication, embracing elegant greys, blacks and white. Textured wall and flowing shapes in greys and white in terrazzo. Terrazzo flooring provide a chic backdrop for the wooden polished furniture. The overlooking window opens up in rich landscape. The flawless connectivity with interior and exterior is not limited the living room it continues till bedrooms.
Subtle and authentic material engagement is a spirit of expression through the use of light tones and rich textures of exposed RCC in bedrooms. Terrazzo flooring anchors the space and provides complimentary bond between walls and wooden openings. Creating a space where his love for art can find quiet moments of expression.
The huge backdrop with studded jute dhury with its matte finish lends a powerful minimalist ethos to the room. A striking feature of the room: Wooden railing for gallery saturates the space with an element of artistic unpredictability, whereas, the ergonomic lounge chair, in its deep, blue tone, grounds the space. Her connection to nature is established through a perforated screen with plants with brass planter that filter light into the space, whilst offering privacy.
The other bedroom by contrast, is defined by simplicity and nature-inspired palette. It embraces soft greys and wooden tones, subtle accents and minimal Galicha pattern flooring to create a tranquil environment.
The minimalist low-profile wooden bed reflects his preference for austerity, whereas the console on the wall is large scale interior element. White plastered walls, devoid of textures, speak volumes about his preference for a serene, uncluttered environment.
This residence, designed like an art gallery, with human individuality at its core, is a pursuit of beauty and meaning. Every object within its larger scheme, has its rightful place. It represents a lifetime of exploration and stories cherished by its residents.
Each room, each surface and carefully curated textures reflect the family’s evolving tastes and personalities. In doing so it becomes a space that is both representative of its inhabitant’s shared and individual personalities.
