  • This Farm House Design Blends With Its Surrounding Environment | PCA – Piyush Chorbele Architects

As our client is a nature lover, we aimed to design a farm house that harmoniously blends with and is deeply connected to the surrounding environment. To achieve this, the focus was on an open-concept layout. Moreover, it ensures that every part of the space is immersive of nature. A key feature of the design is the preservation of the large tree located on the site, which became a central element of the property. To complement the organic feel of the space and maintain the nature-centric concept, the designers chose natural stone flooring.

Editorial Note: This farmhouse is a quiet retreat where nature isn’t just a backdrop, it’s part of every moment. Sunlight filters through open spaces, the breeze moves freely, and every corner feels connected to the earth. It’s a place to slow down, breathe deeply, and feel completely at home in nature’s embrace. ~ Isha Bora

    Courtyard

The farmhouse is designed as a courtyard house, where the central open courtyard serves as the heart of the home, creating a private, serene space that connects all areas of the house.

This courtyard acts as a natural ventilation system, allowing fresh air to circulate throughout the home, while providing a tranquil space for relaxation or social gatherings. Each room engages with the outdoors to the fullest through thoughtful placement.

We minimized the use of walls and maximized window sizes, creating a seamless flow between the interior and exterior. This design choice enhances the connection between all areas of the house, bringing in an abundance of natural light and allowing for uninterrupted views of the surrounding landscape.

The farmhouse is topped with a large sloping roof featuring traditional Mangalore tiles, while the passage area incorporates a flat slab design.

This flat slab serves a functional purpose by collecting rainwater from the sloping roof, which is then directed to a storage area at the rear of the property. The rainwater harvesting system ensures sustainability and supports the environmental ethos of the design.

To enhance the connection to nature, we introduced open showers and grand bathrooms, designed to offer an experience that blends the indoors with the outdoors.

    Indoor-Outdoor Connection

The open shower areas, surrounded by natural elements like plants and stone features, create a serene, spa-like atmosphere. Large windows in the bathrooms offer stunning views of the landscape, ensuring that even while indoors, the clients feel completely immersed in the natural surroundings.

In all, we focused on creating a timeless, minimalist design that is not only beautiful and functional but also deeply respectful of the natural surroundings, offering luxurious yet organic spaces to unwind and relax.
