In the heart of Gurugram, where the city’s energy pulses with both hard work and hard play, a 2600 sq. ft. rooftop terrace design has been transformed into the ultimate hangout spot. Designed for the young and the young at heart, this terrace captures the spirit of a city that knows how to balance the demands of a busy life with the joys of socializing. This redesigned space isn’t just a terrace—it’s an experience, a place where industrial design meets bold, playful elements to create a vibrant environment perfect for social gatherings.
The project began with a clear directive: a modern space, but not a space of white minimalism. The terrace is envisioned as robust and dynamic as the client’s personality. Thus, creating a place that could host lively gatherings while still offering an inviting, laid-back atmosphere. After multiple discussions, the designers and the clients settled on an industrial aesthetic. This style emphasises raw materials like steel, concrete, and glass, with an added layer of boldness through the strategic use of color.
This Rooftop Design Transforms Into An Ultimate Hangout Space | Studio Hatch
The industrial look was a natural choice to reflect the urban vibe of Gurugram. It’s a style that celebrates the beauty of raw, unfinished materials, with exposed steel beams, concrete surfaces, and glass elements. Moreover, it allows the structure to speak for itself. However, to infuse this rugged aesthetic with a sense of fun and liveliness, the designers introduced bold red accents at key points throughout the terrace. This striking color breaks up the monotony of the industrial palette. Additionally, it adds a layer of vibrancy that aligns with the clients’ energetic lifestyle.
Upon entering the terrace, visitors are immediately drawn to a dramatic electric red artwork, a feature that sets the tone for the rest of the space. Adjacent to this is a curved glass wall, composed of translucent glass blocks that subtly reveal the greenery behind it. This combination of bold color and soft transparency creates an intriguing contrast that invites exploration.
The deck serves as the primary seating area and features customized furniture. Moreover, it includes plush sofas, accent tables, and bar seating. Each piece thoughtfully designed to complement the terrace’s overall aesthetic while ensuring comfort for guests.
At the center of the terrace lies the pièce de résistance. It is an electrifying bar area that encapsulates the balance between industrial chic and playful elegance. The bar’s design contrasts bold red tones with sophisticated gray hues. Thus, transforming the space into one that feels both lively and refined. The bar is not just a functional space for serving drinks; it’s the social hub of the terrace, a place where guests naturally gravitate to mix, mingle, and enjoy the night.
One of the most striking features of the bar is its mirror backdrop. This clever design element extends the visual boundaries of the space. However, it creates an illusion of greater depth and makes the terrace feel even more expansive. The backlit shelves add another layer of intrigue, with their unique forms casting playful shadows. Moreover, it changes as the lighting shifts throughout the evening. The standalone bar counter, with its busy marble countertops, echoes the beaten metal ceiling above. Thus, creating a reflective effect that mimics the vibrant energy of a high-end club. This bar is not just a place to get a drink; it is a bold statement in design. Additionally, a playground for those who appreciate both style and substance.
One of the unique features of the terrace is the projection wall, located opposite the bar. This bare wall serves as a blank canvas for projecting images, videos, or even just the ambient light of the city. Moreover, turning the terrace into an outdoor theater where guests can enjoy a cinematic experience under the stars. For added convenience, a small powder room is discreetly positioned next to the bar. Thus, ensuring that guests have everything they need within easy reach.
While the bar serves as the focal point of the terrace, the design also includes thoughtful touches that cater to different social needs. For those looking for a more intimate experience, a casual seating area was created on the opposite side of the terrace. Here, a two-stepped seating arrangement provides a cozy spot for smaller groups to gather and converse. The steps are backed by lush creepers. This brings a touch of nature into the industrial setting and add a sense of movement and life to the space.
In an outdoor setting, it’s essential to strike the right balance between openness and privacy. To achieve this, the designers used metal panels to screen off surrounding properties. Thus, ensuring that the terrace feels like a secluded oasis despite its urban location. The metal sheets add to the industrial aesthetic, while their wavy texture creates visual interest and subtly reflects the changing light throughout the day.
To counterbalance the sleek, black-and-white industrial palette and bring warmth to the space, the terrace is adorned with lush greenery. The greenery not only enhances the overall ambiance but also contributes to the sense of relaxation that the clients wanted to achieve. As the sun sets, subtle mood lighting takes over, casting a warm glow that transforms the terrace into an inviting, magical space.
This redesigned terrace in Gurugram is a testament to the power of thoughtful design. By blending industrial elements with bold colors and playful details, Studio Hatch has created a space that is both functional and visually striking. Whether hosting a lively party or enjoying a quiet evening with friends, this terrace offers an unparalleled experience that captures the spirit of urban living. It’s more than just a rooftop; it is a destination, a place where style and substance come together to create unforgettable moments.
