This Residential Home Integrates Elements of Traditional Living in India | Studio Blue Living
It creates a sense of openness and encourages visual connections across floors.
It is designed to facilitate cross ventilation and enhance the play of light. Additionally, it ensures a pleasant and healthy indoor environment.
The design incorporates multiple strategies to enhance natural ventilation. These involve courtyards, double-height spaces, and shifting staircases work together to ensure a constant flow of fresh air throughout the home.
The heart of the residential home, bringing natural light and airflow into the interior spaces.
Moreover, double-height ceilings facilitates natural air circulation, enhancing comfort and openness.
The master bedroom connects to a private courtyard, which creates a dynamic relationship between interior spaces and the changing outdoor elements of light and rain.
Skylights, large windows, and well-positioned openings ensure an abundance of natural light. Meanwhile, the balconies and perforated facades act as solar shields. Additionally, it prevents overheating and maintains indoor comfort.
A unique feature that creates a surprising, dynamic experience. Moreover, it leads from the first floor to the third. Meanwhile, it encourages air circulation via a skylight positioned on the southern side.
Designed for privacy and independence, with separate kitchen and living areas for the elderly family members.
However, the space allows them autonomy while maintaining a connection to the overall family home.
The building’s facade and rear walls feature square perforations in a Tetris-like pattern. This design element allows the building to “breathe” while offering protection from rain and insects. The perforated aluminium frames and steel mesh add both functionality and aesthetic appeal.
The children’s bedrooms are connected by a central study area that fosters communication and a shared sense of space.
Large balconies with waterproofed planters create cozy and shaded areas, enhancing the privacy of bedrooms. These planters contribute to the “hanging garden” aesthetic, softening the building’s appearance and adding greenery to the facade.
The top floor is dedicated to leisure and entertainment, including a home theater and party area, promoting family bonding and social interaction.
A large balcony, framed with terracotta jali blocks, provides privacy and protection while allowing for ventilation and natural light.
The project was conceptualized by the talented design team led by Praneetha, Varun, and Rohit. Their combined expertise and vision brought to life a home that is both functional and aesthetically rich. Sysplan Associates provided the structural engineering solutions that supported the innovative design of the home, ensuring stability while allowing for the architectural openness and fluidity of space.
The beauty and essence of the residence are captured through the lens of Shakti Smaran, whose photography brings out the spatial intricacies and material textures that define this home.
This project stands as a testament to the successful integration of modern design principles with traditional Indian living values. It not only meets the functional requirements of a joint family but also elevates the experience of living through thoughtful design choices—open spaces, light, ventilation, and privacy. The outcome is a home that enhances the quality of life for all its inhabitants, from children to elders, all while respecting the local climate and urban context.
