In this conversation, Ar. Chirag Mehta reveals his journey into the world of architecture and design.

What is the story of your passion for design?

Passion for design often grows through continuous learning and exploration.

What pushed you to commence your interior design studio?

My decision to start my studio was driven by several factors. First and foremost, I wanted creative freedom, appreciating the opportunities provided by working for established firms, but I often found myself constrained by their vision and direction.

    Journey of Design Process!

Could you write in short about the philosophy you go with when designing a certain project?

When designing a project, I adhere to a philosophy that emphasizes user-centric design, simplicity, and efficiency, ensuring that the final product is both functional and visually appealing. This approach starts with a deep understanding of user needs and behaviors, followed by creating intuitive and accessible interfaces. Thus, I focus on minimalism and clear navigation, optimizing for performance and scalability.

What is the inspiration behind your concept developments and design ideations?

The inspiration behind my concept developments and design ideations stems from a blend of user needs, nature, art, and technology. Understanding and empathizing with users drives solutions that address real-life problems, while nature’s patterns and colors inspire harmonious design elements. Art and culture provide aesthetic and creative insights and stay updated with technological advancements that fuel innovation. Collaborative brainstorming and personal experiences further enrich the ideation process, ensuring that designs are functional, visually appealing, and resonate deeply with users.

I rely on timeless design principles like balance, contrast, and hierarchy, which ensure that my work remains appealing and functional over time. Moreover, emphasizing quality over fleeting trends helps in maintaining a consistent and respected style.

What values do you prioritize in your life and how do they reflect in your way of work?

I prioritize integrity, empathy, and excellence in my life, which is reflected in my work through honest, user-centered, high-quality designs that are both ethical and impactful.

A Sneak Peek Into The Projects By 9 Degree Design Studio!

Could you share the story of a project which has truly challenged you go beyond your conventional style of design?

    Not yet.

With the technological advancements, which is the one tool you feel is a blessing to deal with design challenges?

    I don’t know.

What role do you think a well designed interior space has on the users mood and workability and how do you achieve it in your designs?

A well-designed interior space significantly enhances users’ mood and productivity by creating a comfortable, functional, and aesthetically pleasing environment. I achieve this by incorporating natural light, ergonomic furniture, and calming color schemes while ensuring an efficient layout and clear, purposeful design elements. This approach fosters a positive atmosphere and supports effective work and well-being.

Considering the wide range of materials available today, how do you choose the right material palette which aligns with your design language and the client aspirations?

I choose materials by balancing aesthetic coherence with functionality, ensuring they align with the design language and client aspirations. This involves considering factors like durability, sustainability, and how well the materials complement the overall design vision.

    Beyond Design!

Apart from designing, which are other hobbies that inspire you to keep going?

    Running, cycling, and Swimming.

Which aspect of interior designing brings you the sense of fulfillment?

The sense of fulfillment in interior design also comes from creating spaces that positively impact users’ lives by enhancing their comfort and functionality. Seeing a concept transform into a thoughtfully designed environment that meets both aesthetic and practical needs is deeply rewarding.

Looking ahead in the future, what are some of the commitments to yourself to help you grow as an individual?

Include continually seeking new learning opportunities, embracing diverse experiences, and fostering a mindset of adaptability and resilience.

Beyond professional achievements, what personal legacy do you hope reaches the masses and can make an impact on their lives?

Sharing my experiences and encouraging a balanced approach to personal and professional growth, I aim to impact lives positively, fostering a mindset that values both self-improvement and well-being.
