  • A Break Through in the Conventional Industrial Design | Quintae Architects

    [Sassy_Social_Share]

Reflecting the colour of its native soil, this industrial design changes the track of typical design methodology of this typology.

Fruzyme is a food industry located in Palladam. It is a major town in Tamil Nadu which has large communities of industries and agriculture. Firstly, client required a factory unit with an office space, which stand out from a typical industrial design. The main challenges were to tackle the odor from production unit entering office spaces and to regulate heat and dust.

Editor’s note: The design execution of ‘Fruzyme’ could have been like any other industrial or office space settlement. However, the philosophy of Quintae Architects suggests a different threshold. Smeared in the color of local soil, the team has backed up the contextually sound design with an honest and modest narrative that gives birth to every crafted element. ~ Nishal Sevak

A Break Through in the Conventional Industrial Design | Quintae Architects

Design concept of this industrial design

The concept of seamless integration with the natural surroundings and sleek modernism became the guiding principle of our architectural design. We further drew inspiration from rich, red soil that characterizes this region, selecting an earthy color palette and texture. That would not only harmonize with environment but also blend the building into landscape.

The choice of these colors is both aesthetical and functional, as it minimizes its visual impact on the surroundings. This ensures that the structure becomes a part of scenery rather than an intrusive element like a typical industrial prototype. Straight lines and geometric shapes create a clean minimalist appearance, which is visually pleasing and convey a sense of efficiency.

    Structural planning

With a site area of 70000 sq. ft. the building is planned as two linear structure, interconnected with a passage. It certainly optimizes functionality and work flow. Front structure serves as an office unit which coordinate administrative department. Furthermore, behind it is an industrial production unit which consist of big machineries and storage for raw materials.

    Design Elements

The repetitive use of full height windows with stepped lintel detail enhances the overall grandeur of the design and contributes to the sense of rhythm within the structure. The play of light and shadow across these windows further adds depth and dimension to the façade and interior. It also makes it an integral part of the architectural composition. The minimalist interior design basically ensures that the focus remains on the beauty of nature outside, making the transition from indoor to outdoors nearly imperceptible.

    Courtyard arrangement

Courtyard plays a vital role in the design to let in natural light and to create an openness to the structure. In our design there are two courtyard which adds both aesthetics and functionality to the structure. Also, the inclusion of small courtyard at the entrance adorned with trellises is a visual delight.

Also, it acts as a screen to filter the dust entering to interiors from the arid terrain. Also, the linear courtyard which lies in between the structure allows light and air to the interiors and act as a barrier which restrict the flow of noise and foul smell from the factory to office unit.

    Conclusion

In conclusion it is a design that combines the raw, functional appeal of industrial architecture which camouflage with the nature around it. This rough textured monochrome earthy hue structure stands as a testament to the art of architecture that complements nature, offering a sanctuary that is at one with its surroundings.
