The Garden Restaurant, “Ahmedabad meets Bellasen”, Is Urbanized With A Raw And Earthy Feel | Kunal Shah Architects

    Visit: Kunal Shah Architects

The Ahmedabad-based designer, Kunal Shah and team rigorously conceptualized the space and envisioned a concept that would dwell and bring up a more sophisticated, classy, and urge in a sense of a premium dine-in place. A place that a person would want to visit and keep revisiting. A space that would entertain it all from small gatherings to sundowners to grand family fiestas. A perception of uniqueness and belonging had to be weaved in across the indoors and the outdoors right from the first square feet of the arena. All the more, reaffirming these values with an existing structure and previously set impressions was a challenge in itself.

Bellasen, Ahmedabad is built across 20,000 square feetof open property. Right from the entrance a lot of attention is given to peculiarities and detailing- be it micro or macro. Lush green trees treat the eye and the green wall art on the parapet wall transforms one into the property creating a serene transition. Natural stone for the outdoor flooring weave in that earthy feel while the greens form the curtains that extend as a canopy for the pathway. The landscaping was done more on-site pertaining to the preexisting landscape design.

Further inside, the lush green party lawn opens up the space to the sky making it feel extravagant and audacious. Here is a preexisting curved hut that facilitates the space with live counters and servings during those grand get-togethers. This outdoor arena can create a room for around 200 persons to enjoy their extravaganza. Built in curvature, the hut also works in establishing a sense of cozy envelope that adds to the serenity and thus, very well confines the mood of the night parties.

The façade for the restaurant block is done in brick stuccos. All of it is creatively worked upon with dual materials- brick and metal. The metal fabrications add a modern-day look while the bricks attest to an earthy, bold, and grounded feel. Adorned with lush green bushes, the built form looks minimal, aesthetic, and highly welcoming. A floral bouquet is all set to transition one into the indoor restaurant; heartfully complimenting the olive glass door with louvered paneling. The vestibule is adorned with a wooden brick installation on the left and a customized metal sculpture on the right. The wooden ceiling imbibes an inviting warmth required for the transitioning.

On the inside is a riveting blend of trending and eccentric color and material palette. The veneer wood adorns and clads the walls and the partitions. While the fabricated frames sit in see-through niches; partially blocking the vision across the seating places. The low ceiling height above the seating facilitates the air-conditioning while establishing a sense of privacy and coziness for the clients. A truly unique color combination of teal for the sofas and baby pink for the chair adds that zesty and youthful vibe. The table tops are in marble adding to the intended feeling of a premium quality restaurant. For the floor, rustic vitrified tiles embark a sense of superiority and quality of premiums.

All the more, the walls inside the restaurant have been given a personal touch, weaving uniqueness in each of its nooks and corner. A variety of wall art, wall tiling, wooden frames, and paints adorn these walls. Sculptures and wall installations imbibe that connectivity with modern art and thus make the space feel more premium and welcoming.

An elemental touch is added to the otherwise plain ceiling. Circular units pertain to creating a back-lit space beautifully adorned with hanging greens. This setup powerfully transforms the space quality and perception. The veneer-cladded columns create a notion of segregation thus, adding a sense of privacy for the tables. At the end stands the bakery counter with vertical veneer flutings and glass displays framed with metal cubes. Its rear wall highlights the restaurant logo with bold gestures and display units.

The upper floor is full of youthful vibes and gusty attributes. This café space serves throughout the day and thus entertains a varied gathering. Private seating places are framed in fabricated cubes and rope weaves. The ropes are also used for the parapet walls further enhancing the aesthetics. These ropes cast mesmerizing shadows during the day. Furthermore, the shadows by the overhead fabric structure cast its spell all across. A rooftop serving counter functionally does its job perfectly. The wall arts across the walls further add that intended quirk in here. To add to the versatility of the space, a projector screen is added. Perforated cement blocks and fresh greens combinedly work in uplifting the mood during the screen hours and the sundowners.

A fresh outlook was a must for this preexisting property. New impressions needed to be made in the minds of the city dwellers and the firm Kunal Shah Architects truly justified the purpose.
